Swim LessonsThe Y has instructions for swimmers at all levels and ages. Learn skills that are geared to your personal needs with lesson times that work with your schedule. Whether you are a six-month-old newbie or adult novice, we’ve got private and group lessons and plans to expand your water skills and comfort.

Swim Lessons at the YAt the YMCA, swimming is not just a fun, healthy, lifelong activity, but a life-saving skill that everyone should have the opportunity to learn. Whether you're 6 months old or in your 6th decade of life, we have a swim lesson program to teach you everything from basic water safety to competitive strokes.
Group swim lessons are held for an eight week session and are limited to six participants. Participants are required to attend the same class each week. Picking the Right LessonWater Babies (6 Months - 3 Years)This one day a week, 30 minute class teaches parents the skills and games that they can use to work independently with their infant. Parents must be in the water with their child. Parents and children play games that introduce basic, introductory water skills such as blowing bubbles, breath control, kicking and floating. Children ages 6 months - 3 years are welcome to attend. Children will also learn about boating and diving safety. Children 3 - 5 years old will be in Pre-School level classes, which are 30 minutes in length. Classes are divided into 2 levels: beginner (Pike) and intermediate (Eel). Students in Pike will learn how to be comfortable in the water as well as jumping to the instructor. Before moving into Eel, students should be able to jump to instructors and have a level of comfort in the water. Children will also learn about boating and diving safety. While youth ages 6-12 will be in classes together and have a 30 minute class. Classes are divided into 3 levels: beginner (Guppy), intermediate (Minnow) and advanced (Fish). Guppy lessons with work on basic strokes and jumping into the deep end of the pool, while improving comfort in the water. Students in Minnow should be able to jump into the deep end unassisted and be able to swim independently. Students in Fish must be able to swim the length of the pool repeatly, jump/ dive into the deep end of the pool and be familiar with multiple strokes (ex. Each lesson is 30 minutes in length and times are set up between you and your instructor to accommodate your schedule. A 24 hour cancellation notice is required. Private and Semi-Private swim lessons are only open to members. Adaptive Private swim lessons are available by appointment for special needs children -- with but not limited to: Autism, IDD, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, physical limitations.
