Riverside Y Indoor Soccer FAQs
How do I register for indoor soccer?
Online registration is preferred. Registration forms and payments may also be submitted at the Riverside Y's Welcome Center. The Riverside Y is located at 601 Kelly Road, Cumberland, MD 21502. Registrations are accepted at the Welcome Center just inside the front door.
What are the registration fees?
Our registration fees are in a three-tier format. The best pricing is given to those registering earliest. Youth and adult prices vary slightly.
What types of payment are accepted?
The Cumberland Y accepts cash, check, Discover, Visa and Mastercard.
I missed the registration date. Can I still register my child?
Due to the number of participants, we need adequate time to organize the teams, schedule the games and order the t-shirts. Registrations accepted after the deadline will be taken at the discretion of the Soccer Coordinator Eleanor@cumberlandymca.org
Where are the indoor soccer games held?
All indoor soccer games will be played at the Riverside Y which is located at 601 Kelly Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.
What equipment does my child need for indoor soccer?
Each player must provide their own shin guards and shoes (turf shoes or flat-bottom sneakers). Outdoor cleats are not permitted on the turf. For our younger soccer players, we do not advise purchasing turf shoes since normal flat-bottom sneakers save parents an additional, unnecessary expense. A t-shirt will be provided for league play.
Can I coach my child’s team?
If you are willing to volunteer your time, we would love to have you coach! If you or your significant other would be interested in coaching a team, please email the Soccer Coordinator Eleanor@cumberlandymca.org. Coaches are required to complete a background check at no expense to you.
How will we receive our team’s schedule?
Each player will receive a game schedule from the Y via email. Please be sure to include your email on your registration form. The entire session’s game schedules can also be located on the Y’s website, www.cumberlandymca.org.
When will my team’s schedule be posted?
The schedule should be completed and posted at least a week prior to the season beginning. Coaches will receive a copy via email.
Can a coach reschedule a game?
If a coach knows about a particular event during the session that affects the majority of his players, he should inform the Soccer Coordinator when submitting his team registration form. Every effort will be made to accommodate requests, however requests are not guaranteed.
Can my child play up a division?
Yes, if your child plays at an advanced skill level, he may play up.
Can my child play down a division?
No, it is against the rules to play down a division. The cut-off date is 9/1/18. For example, if you are 14 years old on 9/1/18, then you would play in the U16 division. The U stands for under.
Are there championship games this season?
No, there will not be championship games in league play. A ninth game will be added to the indoor schedule instead of postseason play.
Will the games for all divisions be played on the turf in the former ice arena?
Yes, all indoor soccer games will be played on the turf for the upcoming session.
What is the youngest age that can play in U8?
Your child must have turned 6 prior to 9/1/18 to play in the U8 division unless approved by the Soccer Coordinator.
Do I need to bring a copy of my child’s birth certificate to register?
Yes, please bring a copy of the birth certificate if your child has never played indoor soccer at the YMCA previously.
Can my child be placed on a team with his friend?
Every effort will be made to accommodate requests, however requests are not guaranteed. If you are registering individually and not as a team, there is a place on the registration form to include the names of a few friends. If you or your significant other would be interested in coaching a team, please submit a team roster with a minimum of one player. The remainder of your roster will be filled in by the Soccer Coordinator.
What is the minimum team size?

How will I know if my child’s game is cancelled due to inclement weather?
The Y rarely closes for inclement weather, but it has happened on occasion. If the Y closes, all indoor soccer games for the remainder of the day are cancelled and will be rescheduled. Y closings are posted on our website and Facebook page, as well as, WCBC 1270 AM, Magic 100.5 FM, WFRB 105.3 FM and ROCKY 106.1 FM. If a coach chooses to cancel due to weather, the game will not be rescheduled and will be considered a forfeit. If a team forfeits due to weather, the opposing team is permitted to use the soccer arena during this time for a practice.
If the local schools are dismissed early due to inclement weather, is my child’s game still on as scheduled?
