Riverside Y Indoor Soccer FAQsHow do I register for indoor soccer?
To register online, go to Indoor Soccer. Registrations are also accepted at the Welcome Center just inside the front door of the Riverside Y, 601 Kelly Road, Cumberland, MD 21502. What types of payment are accepted?
The Cumberland Y accepts cash, check, Discover, Visa and Mastercard. I missed the registration date. Can I still register my child?
Due to the number of participants, we need adequate time to organize the teams, schedule the games and order the t-shirts. Registrations accepted after the deadline will be taken at the discretion of the Soccer Coordinator Jaron Lutton Soccer@cumberlandymca.org. Where are the indoor soccer games held?
All indoor soccer games will be played at the Riverside Y which is located at 601 Kelly Road, Cumberland, MD 21502. What equipment does my child need for indoor soccer?
Each player must provide their own shin guards and shoes (turf shoes or flat-bottom sneakers). Outdoor cleats are not permitted on the turf. For our younger soccer players, we do not advise purchasing turf shoes since normal flat-bottom sneakers save parents an additional, unnecessary expense. A t-shirt will be provided for league play. Can I coach my child’s team?
If you are willing to volunteer your time, we would love to have you coach! If you or your significant other would be interested in coaching a team, please email our Soccer Coordinator Jaron Lutton Soccer@cumberlandymca.org. Coaches are required to complete a background check at no expense to you. How will we receive our team’s schedule?
Coaches will email their players a copy of the schedule. Each player can also view their game schedule at Playerspace. Please be sure to include your email on your registration form. When will my team’s schedule be AVAILIBLE?
The schedule should be completed one week prior to the first day of the session. Coaches will receive a copy via email and are responsible for emailing the schedule to their team. Can a coach reschedule a game?
If a coach knows about a particular event during the session that affects the majority of his players, he should inform the Soccer Coordinator when submitting his team registration form. Every effort will be made to accommodate requests, however requests are not guaranteed. Can my child play up a division?
Yes, if your child plays at an advanced skill level, he may play up. Can my child play down a division?
No, it is against the rules to play down a division. The cut-off date is 9/1/21. For example, if you are 14 years old on 9/1/21, then you would play in the U16 division. The U stands for under. Can one soccer player play on two indoor soccer teams?
Players can play on two soccer teams, but only one team per division. Players seeking an advanced competition level are welcome to play up a division, but cannot play down a division. Are there championship games this season?
The premier divisions is more competitive and will play 8 games and conclude with a single elimination playoff between the top 4 teams in each division. Will the games for all divisions be played on the turf in the former ice arena?
Yes, all indoor soccer games will be played on the turf for the upcoming session. What is the youngest age that can play in U8?
Your child must have turned 5 prior to 9/1/21 to play in the U8 division unless approved by the Soccer Coordinator. Can my child be placed on a team with his friend?
Every effort will be made to accommodate requests, however requests are not guaranteed. If you are registering individually and not as a team, please email the Soccer Coordinator Jaron Lutton Soccer@cumberlandymca.org to request that two friends be placed on the same team. How will I know if my child’s game is cancelled due to inclement weather?
The Y rarely closes for inclement weather, but it has happened on occasion. If the Y closes, all indoor soccer games for the remainder of the day are cancelled and will be rescheduled. Y closings are posted on our website and Facebook page, as well as, WCBC 1270 AM, Magic 100.5 FM, WFRB 105.3 FM and ROCKY 106.1 FM. If a coach chooses to cancel due to weather, the game will not be rescheduled and will be considered a forfeit. If a team forfeits due to weather, the opposing team is permitted to use the soccer arena during this time for a practice. If the local schools are dismissed early due to inclement weather, is my child’s game still on as scheduled?
