Youth Instructional Basketball League
The Cumberland YMCA’s co-ed Youth Instructional Basketball League stresses the skills and fundamentals of basketball, and actual game play. Players are encouraged to do their best but the emphasis on winning is minimized. NO wins or losses are recorded; there are no team standings or scores kept. All players play an equal amount of time in games, regardless of their ability.
The Youth Instructional Basketball League is available to boys and girls, grades K-8.
When:
Saturday Mornings (November 8th - February 7th)
- VARSITY (5th-8th Grade): 9:00am-10:30am*
- JV (Kindergarten-4th Grade): 10:30am-12:00pm*
* These time slots will be for the first four weeks of the program that will focus on skills/drills to prepare the participants for game play, which will begin on the 5th week (December 6th).
* On November 8th, all players should report to the Y’s gymnasium during the time slot (Varsity or JV) that they register for.
Players will be assigned teams and receive a game schedule on November 29th.
*All games will be held on Saturday mornings and may be between 8:00am-12:15pm.
The program will not be held on 12/27 and 1/24.

- Grades K-8
Please Note:
- The program begins on November 8th. All participants should plan to attend that morning - we DO NOT email participants and provide them with a schedule like we do for soccer.
- The first four sessions (November 8th-November 29th) of the program are spent working on skills/drills to prepare participants for game play which will begin on the 5th session (December 6th).
- Players will be assigned teams and receive a game schedule on November 29th. Regardless of whether a participant is registered for JV or Varsity, game times could be anywhere between 8:00am-12:15pm.
