Facility Age Guidelines

 
The Cumberland YMCA cares about all of our families and children and is dedicated to supporting strong, healthy families. The following youth guidelines have been added to our policies so that your children will be cared for and supervised properly:

Membership
  • Ages 13+ may join as individuals, however, youth 13-17 must have a parent or legal guardian present to sign the membership agreement and waiver.

Facility Use
  • Children ages 10-12 may use appropriate areas of the facility provided their parent/guardian is on the premises.
  • Ages 13+ may use YMCA facilities without supervision, unless posted otherwise
  • Ages 16+ may be considered the supervising guardian for siblings age 12 and younger when using YMCA facilities, provided responsible and appropriate behavior is exercised at all times.
  • Guests under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian sign a guest waiver on site, at the Y, at the time of their visit. Waivers are good for one year.

Wellness Center
  • Ages 12-13 may use Wellness Center cardio equipment and stationary machines with a parent or supervising guardian on the premises after completing a Wellness Orientation. Weight Room is not suitable for members under the age of 14.
  • Ages 14-15 may use the Wellness Center’s cardio equipment and stationary machines without supervision after completing a Wellness Orientation. Use of the Weight Room requires a Youth Strength Training Session.
  • Ages 16+ may use the Wellness Center and Weight Room without limitations.

Group Fitness
  • Ages 10-12 may participate in Group Exercise classes with a parent or supervising guardian, with the exception of any Strength classes. Classes categorized as a Strength class are not suitable for participants under the age of 13.
  • Ages 13+ may participate in all Group Exercise classes without a parent or guardian.

Aquatics
      
MAIN POOL
  • Children under the age of 7 MUST be accompanied IN the water by a parent/guardian.
  • Children ages 7-9 who pass the deep water swim test can swim in the pool under the direct supervision of a parent/guardian. 
  • Children ages 10 and up can be in the pool if they passed the deep water swim test and their parent/guardian is in the facility. 

      WARM POOL 
  • Children under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by a parent/guardian IN the water. 

   *All other facility age guidelines apply.

Locker Rooms
  • A family friendly locker room is located in the pool area. We encourage parents/guardians to refrain from taking children of the opposite gender over the age of 5 into the Women’s and Men’s Locker Rooms.
  • Ages 4-9 may only use locker rooms under direct supervision of a parent or supervising guardian.
  • Ages 10-12 may use locker rooms without a parent/guardian, provided parent/guardian is on the premises.
  • Ages 13+ may use locker rooms without supervision.
 

 

Inclement Weather Delays and Closings

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

    The Cumberland YMCA will always put the safety of its members, program participants, and staff first when decisions need to be made concerning inclement weather.
 
    In the event of inclement weather, including thunder and/or lightning, the pool will close and the pool deck will be cleared. The pool area will remain closed for 30 minutes after each flash of lightning and/or each sound of thunder. All patrons and staff must exit the pool area.
 
   When inclement weather poses a threat, the YMCA may adjust or cancel scheduled hours of operation, programs and/or special events. If such circumstances occur, please check with the following for additional information. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
 

 

Guest Pass Policy

     Welcome to the YMCA of Cumberland. Please remember that our first priority is to serve our members who have made a commitment to the Y by joining. Free guest passes are provided to facility members 18 years and older for them to recruit new members.
  • For the safety of our members, all guests must be accompanied by an active adult member.
  • Each guest may only be a guest two times per calendar year.
  • Guest hours and facility usage may vary based on capacity.
  • Guest must be accompanied by the YMCA member during their visit
  • Anyone caught sneaking a guest in will have their membership revoked
  • Member is responsible for the behavior of their guests
  • Guest must provide valid photo identification (driver’s license or school I.D.).
  • Guest must register at the Welcome Center and sign the Guest Waiver for using the facility.
  • Youth Guests (ages 18 & under) must have an adult remain at the YMCA with the youth guest at all times, provide their signature with the Guest Waiver.
  • Guests must adhere to all YMCA policies and usage guidelines
 

 

Refunds

     Monthly Membership fees are non-transferable and will not be refunded beyond 3 months after payment has been processed. Annual memberships are non-refundable and non-transferable.
 

 

Cancellation and Facility Use

​     Dues are continuous every month regardless of use of the YMCA until the proper change procedure is followed. Cancellation must be submitted on the required Membership Cancellation Form in person or by email at least 30 days prior to the next draft date. Cancellation via phone is not permitted.  Cancellation is not complete until written confirmation is provided by the YMCA. You are responsible for checking your bank and credit card accounts to ensure that automatic payments have been stopped.
 

 

Returned Dues

     All electronic drafts that are returned and not resolved prior to the next draft date will have their membership cancelled. If your draft is returned, it will be resubmitted again in an attempt to collect your dues. The YMCA is not responsible for any other collection/bank fees assessed by individual banking institutions. In order to reinstate a membership, all outstanding balances must be paid in full.
 

 

Sport / Aquatic Program Credit Guidelines

  • A full refund will be issued if a request to withdraw from a sport/aquatic program is made 24-hours prior to the start of the program.
  • Refund requests after the start of the start of the program will be at the discretion of management.
  • The YMCA reserves the right to cancel a class due to low participation.  In the event this happens, registrants will receive a full refund.
  • If the YMCA cancels a program due to staff/facility difficulties or weather, the YMCA will provide a credit for the missed program on members’ accounts, if a make-up date is not scheduled.
  • Refund will be issued via mailed check unless the original transaction was charged to a credit card. The same account number will be credited. No cash refunds will be issued at any time. 
 

 

Caregivers

     Caregivers are required to stay with the member they are accompanying throughout the visit.  Caregivers such as nannies and adult assistants will be required to have their own membership for personal use of the Y facilities. They are not included, as caregivers, in any membership, including family memberships.
 

 

Unauthorized Use

     Anyone caught assisting a non-member into the facility in an unauthorized manner will have their membership revoked.
 

 

Dependent ages on a Family Membership

     Family memberships are available to 2 adults and all dependent children under the age of 18 living in the same household.  Children ages 18-21 who are enrolled in college full time may be included in the membership.
 

 

Multi Sibling benefit

     A multi sibling benefit of 15% is available to family membership holders for session based programs.  Families with more than one child registered will receive 15% off program fees for the 2 nd , 3 rd , etc. child.  Discounts are only applicable for the same session and the same program.
 

 

Service Animal Policy

     Any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability, is allowed in our facility. Service dogs are allowed to accompany the handler to any place in the building or facility where members of the public, program participants, customers or clients are allowed.

     Emotional support animals, comfort animals and therapy dogs are not service animals under Title II and Title Ill of the ADA, and therefore are NOT allowed in our facility. Pets and all other species of animals or dogs that are not service animals are NOT allowed in our facility. 
 

 

Music Policy

     The YMCA desires to host a family friendly environment where all ages can enjoy their experience.  To foster this atmosphere, a music policy has been instituted.  Music devices should be used with headphones and set at a volume that does not disturb other members.  Music should only be amplified during a scheduled YMCA class or program. 
 

 

​Military Initiative

The Cumberland YMCA would like to thank all those in the military and their families for their commitment and sacrifice for our country. The Cumberland YMCA welcomes Active duty military personnel on leave and their immediate family members to workout at our facility for up to 30 days at no cost. Active military identification for the family must be presented and the individuals must complete the guest waiver form.
 

 

     Anyone who refuses to comply with any of the requests listed above may be asked to leave the premises by a Director, Coordinator, or other supervisory staff.  Staff will call the police to escort anyone from the facility or grounds who refuse to leave when asked or whose behavior or actions might jeopardize the safety of others. Egregious or frequent problems may result in a no-trespass order being issued by the Cumberland City Police.  


     The duration of the no-trespass order is at the discretion of YMCA Directors, and will depend on the Severity of the incident(s).
