The Lifeguard at the Cumberland YMCA creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

1. Assume leadership of the group of participants assigned to his/her charge; teach and actively participate with their activities as a group.
2. Follow all personnel policies and guidelines, follow all reasonable directives issued by the supervisor, and uphold rules, regulations and standards associated with the School Age Child Care Program.
3. Assume leadership of staff and center in the absence of the Director.
4. Role model and encourage the development and practice of the YMCA character values (caring, honesty, respect and responsibility), performing all assigned duties with energy and enthusiasm.
5. Provide positive leadership to the School Age Child Care participants and actively participate with their activities, such as indoor and outdoor recreation, arts & crafts, enrichment activities, and playing games.
