Coronavirus Update
Important Message for our YMCA Community
Update 4/13/20 11:30 am

To Our Community,
Community service has long been an integral part of the YMCA’s operations and we have repeatedly been called upon in times of crisis, conflict and strife to provide for the needs of the community. In this unprecedented time, we now recognize the need to shift our focus to best serve our community. It goes without saying that the COVID-19 crisis has created an enormous amount of uncertainty. However, how we all respond is within our control. We are truly amazed at the number of our members and supporters who have reached out to us and shared their willingness to continue supporting the Y when our community needs us most.
As we pivot our services for the safety of the community, we ask that you join our efforts to strengthen our community by continuing to keep your membership active. Your support will enable us to continue maintaining vital life-changing and life-saving programs at the Y. The YMCA is a community and this situation has only proven again that our community is not defined by a physical building. It is defined by the many caring and generous people who make it up – you are one of those people.
We are working to provide the following emergency services to our community during this time:
• Critical Care for the homeless population
• Providing free emergency childcare for essential workers
• Well check-in calls for our Senior Members
• Blood Drives through the Red Cross – Upcoming dates are: April 16th, April 30th and May 21st from 11:30 am – 5 pm. Click here to register to give: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=YMCACumberland
• Online resources for workouts to keep our members active and healthy
For specific information about these above resources, please email us at help@cumberlandymca.org.
As a non-profit organization, your membership fee during our closure will be eligible as a charitable contribution and will continue to help us provide these crucial services. Our tax ID # is 52-0591700. Upon our reopening, we’ll be happy to provide you a donation letter confirming your generous gift.
If requested, members may place their membership on hold until we re-open by contacting us at hold@cumberlandymca.org and we will process that hold for you.
We will continue to work closely with community leaders and will communicate with you about the status of our operations. In the meantime, we hope that you will join us in our efforts to serve those in our community who need us most. Thank you for your continued support.
In Gratitude and Service,
Julie O’Neal
Executive Director

For over 147 years, we have always been an organization that walked in the direction of a challenge. Today we must focus our resources on those who need us most during this unprecedented time.
In accordance with Governor Hogan’s Executive Order, as of the 5:00 pm on Monday, March 16th, our YMCA facilities will be closed until further notice.
We have been vigilant in our commitment to provide services for our community through these turbulent times and we promise to deepen that commitment as we develop new ways to partner with you, our family. We are shifting our resources to best support the most pressing needs in our community. We are aligning with our community partners to serve parents who must work including health care workers, first responders and "essential" employees protecting our community. We have also offered our services and facilities to fill the gaps in our community during this time of need.
Your Y is committed to be there for those who need us most, and we ask that you join us in the effort. We ask that you continue to invest in your membership so that we can maintain vital life-changing and life-saving programs at the Y. If you prefer to put your membership on hold, please contact us and we will do that for you, but we invite you to join us in service to others needing our help. We know your membership is meaningful to you and that meaning lies in the relationships you have built at the Y. Those relationships are based upon how much you care about our community and want everyone to have the opportunity to thrive – no matter what our world is facing. Thank you for joining us.
As members, we do not want you to think we do not care about you and your health and wellness. To support your health and well being goals, we will be adding virtual and live stream classes within the next couple of days. These workouts will enable you and your family to exercise together from home. Needless to say, we will reopen at first chance, and hope that you will find it in your heart to continue to support us.
In the meantime, we hope that you will join us in our efforts to serve those in our community who need us most. Thank you for your support as we work diligently to ensure the health and safety of our community.
Best regards,
Julie O’Neal
