Learn how to effectively prevent and respond to water emergencies with this American Red Cross lifeguard training. This course is designed to arm you with the skills and knowledge to prepare you for a variety of scenarios in and around the water. With this lifeguard training, you will learn how quick response times and effective preparation are vital to being a lifeguard while also understanding the crucial elements in helping to prevent drownings and injuries.
First time participants must pass a pre-course swimming skills test that will be held on the first evening of the course. Participants must be at least 15 years of age at the start of class and pass 2 written exams and an in water skills exam by at least an 80%. Participants must be present for all classes. The class is limited to 10 participants.
Classes are held on the first day of each session
Lifeguard Certification Course
Participants must pass the Pre-Course and be 15 years of age on or before the start date of the course. Classes are taught by American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructors. Classes will be held at the Riverside YMCA and/or Allegany College of Maryland. Classes will predominately be held during weekday evenings and weekends. Each class session will have a full certificate and re-certification as well. Participants for both courses must pass 2 written exams and the water skills portion to pass. Passing is not guaranteed.
The course includes your lifesaving, CPR, AED and First Aid certification through the Red Cross which is valid for 2 years. Participants must pass both written exams with an 80% or higher and pass the water exam as well.
All class dates are 100% mandatory and there will be no make-ups unless we, the YMCA, were to cancel a class.
