YMCA Board Members Take the Plunge!
An update from our August 29, 2016 meeting:
The YMCA of Cumberland held its annual meeting on Monday, August 29th in the Aquatics Area of the Kelly Road facility.
Erin DeLong, YMCA of Cumberland Board President began by “taking stock of where we are and a glimpse at some of our future goals”. DeLong shared that after last year’s restructuring of the membership rate, the Y has experienced 13 months of steady membership growth and looks forward to continuing to expand its wellness and youth development opportunities with the community.
“We have been able to make much needed improvements to our facility through the generous and private donations of long standing and faithful members,” she says. Enhancements include: adding new equipment and improving the layout of the Wellness Areas, relocating and adding additional bikes to the Spin Room and developing a Functional Training Room in the former Spin room area. “We are standing next to our freshly resurfaced main and warm water pools and our reconditioned sauna. To that we owe our appreciation to our hard working Y maintenance crew, the vendors who came in and completed the job on budget and ahead of schedule and finally to the Y board and staff for their fiscal stewardship for the institution of a building reserve fund and protection of those funds so that they would be available for just this kind of project.”
“As we look ahead, we are excited to share a new opportunity we have been presented, to rehabilitate our Youth Center. Because of the interest and support of a generous donor, we hope to soon announce plans to improve and expand the programs we offer to the young members of our community.” DeLong concluded.
Other business included recognizing new board members: Wayne Heavener, Tom Striplin, Jon Stroup and current board members Stacey Bingaman, Julie Christopher, Stu Czapski, Kim Green, Marcie Grice, Jes Harding, Greg Leake, Laurie Marchini, Steve Nelson, Ed Seward, Adam Sterne, Corey Tharp and Melanie Uhl for their volunteerism and leadership. A special thank you was extended to Kerry Twigg who has served the board for nine years and to Erin DeLong who served as Board President for the last two years. New Officers were elected: Corey Tharp, President; Adam Sterne, President-Elect and Ed Seward, Treasurer.
And then the YMCA Board Members plunged into the “new” pool!
